Chapter One: A new romance: Serena’s heart and mind is in a tizzy

It was a quiet Saturday night and the scouts were enjoying the beginning of their summer break that had begun after school. All of them decided to hold a sleepover at Lita’s apartment. They rented a couple of movies and were ready to begin their slumber party.
“Popcorn is done!” Serena called out as she entered the room with a huge bowl of popcorn and was currently eating a handful of it. She was wearing a pink maternity nightgown that had ribbons around the bottom of it.
“Don’t hog it meatball head,” Raye said taking the bowl from Serena as she sat it down on the table.  She adjusted the shoulder strap on her red nightgown made of delicate silk, her raven hair was pulled back with a ribbon. “We should really learn not leave you in charge of popcorn.”
The girls laughed as Serena glared at Raye.
“Don’t be so hard on her.” Lita said from her place on the floor. She was wearing a green night gown shirt that buttoned down the front. “She is eating for two.”
The girls giggled as they all settled down in their designated areas for the night. Raye, Lita, Amy, and Keisha were on the floor while Mina and Serena were sitting on the two couches.
“Enough idle talk let’s begin with the tradition,” Mina stood up; she was clad in an orange nightgown that had a fur trim at the bottom. “Let’s play truth or dare.”
“I haven’t played it since I was in grade school in New Orleans.” Keisha said. She was wearing a baby-blue short night gown and a pair of slippers that looked like they were platform style.
“I’ll go first,” Lita said as she focused on Amy who was reading a math book. “I choose Amy…truth or dare?”
Amy looked up from her book she was the only one wearing conservative pajamas that had pants to them in a dark blue color. “Honestly Lita I don’t think playing this game is something we should be doing…we do have finals when school starts again.”
“Oh come on Amy just choose one.” Mina said taking the book from her hands. “It’s not that hard.”
Amy sighed. “Fine truth.” She said.
“Have you ever French kissed Greg?” asked Lita.
Amy blushed a crimson red as the girls all leaned in for the answer from the blue-haired genius girl. “Well um…we…that is personal.”
“Tell us or else you take a dare.” Raye said.
Amy knew that if she didn’t answer then the girls would be on her case about wanting to know. So she did the only thing she could. “Fine we French kissed once. But it was on my birthday.”
The girls began to squeal in excitement, they couldn’t believe that shy little Amy would French kiss her boyfriend.
“Alright it’s your turn Ames.” Lita said.
Amy saw Keisha right next to her as she smiled. “Alright I Choose Keisha.” She said. “Truth or dare?”
Keisha smiled with confidence. “I’ll take the dare.” She said.
“I dare you to call Andrew and tell him that you like him.” Amy said.
Keisha stood up as she went to her bag and pulled out her cell phone. “No sweat.” She said dialing Andrew’s number.
“Hello?” Andrew’s voice said on the other line.
“Hi Andrew,” Keisha said casually. “I have something to tell you.”
“What is it?” Andrew asked.
“I like you.” Keisha said as she immediately hung up the phone not waiting for Andrew’s answer.
“Wow you did it.” Amy said. “Alright your turn.”
Keisha smiled. “I choose Serena.” She said. “Truth or dare?”
Serena nodded as she sat down the bowl of popcorn that she was eating. “Go ahead. “I choose truth.”
“Alright what is the story behind you and that jerk Kazuya?” Keisha asked.
Serena went quiet for a moment as she swallowed hard. “Alright…I’ll tell you but promise me not to breathe a word of this to anyone…especially Darien.”
Right.” Keisha said.
Serena sighed. “It began 7 months ago…before I got pregnant.” She said. “It was when our class got a new transfer student from Osaka…..”

******* (Flashback to 7 months ago)
“Class today we have a new student joining us today,”
The teacher Mr. Uri smiled as he nodded for the new student to come into the room. A young man with brown hair that reminded a lot of people of fall leaves, he had the most sincere looking blue eyes the color of a clear sky hidden behind his glasses. His physical characteristics were that of a star athlete which could be seen through the shirt of his uniform.
“Hello class I’m Kazuya Saotome and I am very glad to meet all of you.” He gave the class a smile as he bowed.  “I hope all of you will be great friends.”
The class seemed uninterested as they began to talk amongst themselves once again ignoring the new student.
“Well Satome why don’t you choose a seat and we’ll begin class in a minute.” Mr. Uri said.
Kazuya nodded as he headed towards the empty desk behind Serena. “This one will be do just fine.” He noticed that Serena was giggling happily. He looked over her shoulder and saw that she was snacking on something.
Serena was eating her lunch which was hidden behind the books she had on her desk. She had skipped breakfast again in fears of being late. “This is great!” she said happily as she ate another rice ball.
“Is girls boxed lunches always so cute?” Kazuya whispered in her ear causing the blonde to jump and knock over the books.
“Miss Tsukino you know that eating isn’t permitted in class!” Mr. Uri said in anger. “Unless you have a medical problem and need to eat.”
Serena sighed as she closed her lunch and let out a sigh. She hadn’t gotten a chance to try the piece of lemon pie that her mom had put in her lunch. “Yes sir…” she said. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s lunch time!”
Serena happily opened her lunch bag as she sat outside under a tree in the school’s courtyard with Mina, Lita, and Amy.
“You didn’t eat all of your lunch,” Mina observed. “That is a first.”
“I was caught before I could finish eating it.” Serena said in annoyance. “The new boy in my class got me caught.”
“I made some chocolate chip muffins if you want one.” Lita said offering it to Serena. “I made a whole lot today so have as much as you like!”
“Ok!” Serena said taking a muffin as she bit into it. “You know I think that new boy in my class is really cute.”
“What?!” Lita and Amy cried out as Mina only smiled.
“I mean he’s really smart,” Serena said. “And he wasn’t too bad to look at either.”
“So you’re giving up on Tuxedo Mask?” Lita asked. “I thought you had a crush on him as well.”
“Well, I don’t know who he is so he might have a girlfriend.” Serena said as she took a bite of the muffin. “Or he could be married.”
“Or an enemy.” Amy pointed out.
“Well I personally don’t trust the guy,” Lita said, she looked over and saw Kazuya hiding behind a nearby tree watching them. “Look, he’s watching us.”
Serena looked over and saw Kazuya watching them closely. He had a notepad taking notes. “He might be drawing something.”
“Well I think he’s strange.” Lita said. “I am not going to get involved with someone like that.”
“Come on girls let’s go see him.” Serena pleaded as she stood up and dusted off her uniform. “I bet you anything that he’s really nice.”
“You can go.” Lita said. “I am staying right here.”
Amy stood up. “I need to go to the computer lab to work on a program for Luna.” She said. “To find the moon princess.”
“I’ll come with you.” Mina said with a smile.
“Glad someone is coming along with me.” Serena said as she and Mina headed towards the place where Kazuya was.
Kazuya pretended to be looking at something else when Serena and Mina walked over. He turned and gave them a smile.
“Hi, I’m Serena, and this is my friend Mina, “ Serena said with a sweet smile.
Kazuya looked at Serena for a moment and then looked at Mina. “I knew this school had cute girls but I never thought one of them would be an angel.”
Mina giggled. “Thank you,” she said. “I have been told that my ancestor was the Greek goddess Aphrodite.”
“I wasn’t talking to you.” Kazuya said darkly. “Your friend is the angel.”
Mina glared at him as her blue eyes filled with anger. “Well you don’t have to rude about it!” she said. “Come on Serena let’s go this guy is bad news.”
“I am sure he was only joking.” Serena said. “I want to talk to him a bit longer.”
“Fine.” Mina said walking off as she headed back over to Lita.
“Your friend seemed angry,” Kazuya said pretending to be concerned. “Maybe you should go with her, she’s right I am bad news.”
Serena shook her head. “No you’re not.” She said sweetly. “You’re pretty charming and I am sure that label you’ve given yourself isn’t true.”
Kazuya couldn’t believe that this girl was actually not judging him, he finally had a person that was so kind hearted. “You know what I can tell that we are going to be great friends.”
Serena smiled. “Of course.” She said. “Everyone needs a friend!”
**********A week later********
“So she is dating him?”
Mina nodded. “Yeah and that’s why she isn’t here.” She said.
“I am not surprised.” Raye said as she stopped sweeping the temple grounds. “Serena has a one track mind.”
“She wouldn’t have forgotten about the meeting.” Amy said. “I have confidence that she’s only late as usual.”
As if on cue Serena came up the temple stairs, she had a bright smile on her face as she ran towards her friends. “Sorry I’m late.”
“You’re always late meatball head.” Raye said in annoyance. “Why can’t you act like you have common sense?”
“And why can’t you act like you have an ounce of kindness?” Serena said simply.
The girls including Raye gasped out in shock not believing that this was the Serena whom always cried whenever Raye yelled at her.
“Oh so Miss Meatball Head has finally gained a backbone?” Raye said in anger.
Serena frowned. “I’ve always had a backbone, I just never shown it because I let you walk all over me.” She said.
“Serena and Raye this is no time to fight.” Amy said as she dashed over to break up the upcoming fight.
“This meatball head needs to learn that she can’t speak to me that way.” Raye said as she tossed the broom to the side.
Serena threw her backpack down on the ground as she pulled off her earrings. “I agree, Raye needs to learn that she can’t treat me this way.” She said. “So move aside Amy.”
“Serena what has gotten into you?” Mina asked. “This isn’t like you at all, you’re usually so sweet but now you’ve turned into someone else.”
“I am fine Mina.” Serena said as she turned back to Raye. “Are you ready or what Fire breath?”
Raye in reality didn’t want to fight Serena, she was one of her dear friends the only reason she yelled at her was to toughen her up. But she never expected her act like this. “I don’t want to fight you Serena.” She said. “You’re acting like a different person.”
“I knew you were all talk and no action.” Serena taunted.
“What has that jerk Kazuya been doing to you?” Lita asked concerned. “You’re not like this at all.”
“He taught me not to let anyone especially my friends walk all over me.” Serena said. “Which I am not going to let happen anymore.”
“Serena stop this now.” Raye said. “You are not this kind of person.”
“Why because you feel that you can’t boss me around anymore?” Serena said. “Because you need someone to be your lapdog?”
“Serena stop this at once!” Raye cried out as she slapped her.
Serena gasped out for a moment as she immediately slapped Raye back as the two of them began to fight.
Amy dashed over to break it up but was thrown to the ground. “Lita, and Mina we need to do something.” She said. “They’re going to hurt each other.”
Lita and Mina both nodded as they dashed over and pulled Serena and Raye apart. They saw that the two of them still wanted to fight.
“At least I’m not a bitch!” Serena cried out in anger.
Raye scoffed. “Then stop acting like one!” she cried.
“Mina let me go!” Serena cried out as she struggled to get free from Mina’s grasp. “This brat needs to be taught a lesson.”
“Not until you calm down.” Mina said sternly.
“Let her go.” Raye said with a smug smile. “Let her take all her frustrations out on me.”
“No way Raye you two have to get along.” Lita said. “We can’t have disharmony among Sailor Scouts.”
“What is going on here!?” Luna demanded as she saw Serena and Raye both being held by Mina and Lita.
“They got into a fight.” Mina said still holding on to Serena.
“Raye did you pick a fight with Serena?” Luna asked not knowing the truth.
“No, she’s the one who started it.” Raye said. “She’s acting like she’s all high and mighty.”
“I’ll show you who is acting all high and mighty!” Serena cried as she tried to get free again.
“Serena what has gotten into you?!” Luna cried out in shock. “You’re picking fights with your friends?”
“Raye was never my friend!” Serena cried in anger. “She has always been picking on me, and calling me names.”
“Serena, you need to calm down or else I’ll have to do something drastic.” Luna said.
“What?” Serena asked. “Make me apologize to Raye?”
“No, terminate your command as Sailor Moon.” Luna said.
Serena glared at Luna. “Fine!” she cried. “I rather not be a boring Sailor Scout anyway!”
With that she left the temple as the girls and cats watched her retreating form.
“What started her to be like this?” Luna said.
“I think I know.” Mina said. “It’s that new guy she is hanging out with.”
*********************
“Those horrible friends of yours took Raye’s side instead of yours?”
Kazuya held Serena close as he kissed her on the forehead. “You did the right thing in teaching Raye a lesson.”
Serena nodded. “Well she made me angry,” she said. “But I feel bad that we got into a fight.”
“You don’t have to feel bad,” Kazuya said. “You did the right thing; she was expecting you to be the object of her teasing forever.”
“I guess your right but I think I’ll apologize tomorrow when I see her.” Serena said. “After all she is a dear friend.”
“I thought you and I were going out.” Kazuya kissed her passionately as Serena melted.
Serena nodded. “It can wait until later.” She said.
**********************
“Is Miss Tsukino absent again?”
Mr. Uri looked around the room and then noticed Kazuya’s seat was empty as well. He shook his head.
“Two weeks here and Mr. Satome is cutting class.” He began to think for a moment. “So has Miss Tsukino.”
“I saw her earlier this morning.” Molly said. “But she told me that she was going back home because she didn’t feel well.”
“I saw her in the hallway with Kazuya.” Melvin pointed out. “Maybe they went home early.”
They dismissed the thoughts as Mr. Uri conducted class. Unknown to anyone that Serena and Kazuya were outside the hallway in a closet together.

“I can’t believe she skipped classes again.” Amy said. “Serena has changed for the worse.”
“I agree.” Lita said. “We need to find out where she went so we can talk some sense into her.”
Mina nodded. “I really hope she isn’t doing anything she’ll regret.”
They heard the bell ring as they headed back inside for their next class. They passed by the broom closet where they heard the sounds of someone inside. They stopped when they heard Serena’s voice.
Lita yanked open the door as she gasped out, Amy turned a bright crimson red color from the sight.  “Serena get out of there!” She cried as she pulled her friend out of the closet.
“Lita you’re acting like my mom.” Serena protested as she fixed her skirt. “We were caught in the moment of romance.”
“You call being caught in the broom closet with a guy having a romance?!” Lita cried out. “It’s more like acting like a little whore.”
“Well Kazuya doesn’t think so.” Serena said with a smile.
“And I never will angel!” Kazuya said kissing her on the lips.
“Come on Serena,” Amy said grabbing her friend by the arm and pulling her towards the classroom.
“Serena how can you just act like that don’t you have any self respect?!” Lita demanded. “Serena you’re acting like you’re “easy”!”
“Of course I do.” Serena said with a smile as she began to day dream. “Kazuya doesn’t think I am easy.”
“To hell with Kazuya!” Mina cried out in anger. “Serena ever since you’ve gotten with that guy you’ve been acting like you’re nothing but a whore, and you still haven’t made up with Raye!”
“Well I…” Serena began.
“And you have been skipping school.” Amy said. “Your grades are going to suffer and then you’ll be thrown out of school.”
“But girls I…”
“And if you keep up dating Kazuya you’ll end up doing something you can’t reverse.” Lita said.
Serena sighed.  “You’re right girls,” She said. “I promise that from now on I will do better. Starting now, I am going go to class and then after school I am going to make up with Raye.”
The girls smiled in satisfaction at the fact that they might have the old Serena back.
